FAQ

What does LSM stand for?
This is probably our most frequently asked question.
The short answer? Nothing. Well...not anymore.
The long answer?
Maverix Drumline Inc. was officially founded in June of 1996. In 2003, the organization was renamed "LakeShoremen Inc.", and added color guard performers.
LakeShoremen evolved into a competitive drum and bugle corps, competing in DCA from 2005-2009, before only staying active as a parade corps from 2010-2014.
In 2018, the LSM Board of Directors acknowledged that the LakeShoremen name was not only rather dated, but also created a fairly negative reputation among local band directors from LSM's later DCA days. Because of this, the LSM BOD voted unanimously to rebrand the organization as "LSM Performing Arts Inc."
We entertained the idea of creating a new name around the acronym "LSM", but decided LSM will do just fine.
When/Where are auditions?
There will be FOUR audition dates this year! Two in Southgate, MI and two in Kent City, MI. You will be able to audition for either LSM World or each side of the state's respective A class team.
Stay tuned to our social media pages for exact locations, cost, etc.
Should I attend both audition dates?
If possible, YES!
Not only does the audition fee cover both dates, but we often offer spots first to performers who show improvement through both audition dates.
With that being said, if you do have a conflict and communicate that with our staff, we will not hold it against you during the audition process. Communication is everything.
Which team is for me?
The beautiful part about having multiple teams is that NO ONE gets cut.
LSM World is a World Class team consisting of performers who are typically the hardest working members of their scholastic ensembles. This team also consists of several music majors from local colleges and universities, as well as seasoned WGI and DCI performers.
LSM East and LSM West are open to anyone ages 12 and up who is willing to work hard and have fun together. One of the primary purposes of these teams is to give performers the training and skills needed to find success in their high school/marching band, and eventually make it onto our world class team! LSM East is based out of Southgate, MI and LSM West meets in Kent City, MI. No matter where you live in Michigan, there is an option for you to find success with one of our teams!
